When I'm elected World Dictator, school will go from 10-5; let's see how that works out.Darrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15730642770935985796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8705078887057341738.post-26699638347838938192011-07-12T18:09:31.306-04:002011-07-12T18:09:31.306-04:00schoolstarttime.orgschoolstarttime.orgDr. Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00209597695197799059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8705078887057341738.post-9898953954668120092011-07-10T09:03:50.967-04:002011-07-10T09:03:50.967-04:00And it's pretty common elsewhere too. My only concern about later start times is that, due to the 24-availability of cell phones and the internet, kids will just stay up even later at night. In my benighted youth, even TV channels signed off at 11 PM, so it was easier for kids to get to sleep at a reasonable time for getting up between 6 and 7. But I'm all for trying whatever works. Another point: shorter athletic practices would not be a bad thing. 2 hours per day, 5 days per week is a ridiculous escalation of the sports-mania of our schools.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8705078887057341738.post-8447096511247540272011-07-08T19:21:32.113-04:002011-07-08T19:21:32.113-04:00Yup, it's pretty common in the Northeast.Yup, it's pretty common in the Northeast.Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04323026187622872114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8705078887057341738.post-77103410538197456492011-07-08T11:01:20.509-04:002011-07-08T11:01:20.509-04:00Is this standard US practice? Here in the UK a start time of 8.15 is considered quite early, and frequently you have registration until around 8.40. The school day normally ends at around 3.30.Jon Ingramnoreply@blogger.com
