Just five years ago, Visitacion Valley Middle School in San Francisco was notorious for high truancy rates and disciplinary and safety issues. Since then, the number of suspensions has been cut in half and the truancy rate has dropped 61%.

Just like that, POOOF! It's either SBG, or Peer Mediation, or Cooperative Learning, or moveable chairs, or a new building, or Literacy Across the Curriculum, or wellness day, or Parent-School Partnership, or unschooling, or pre-K for all, or free lunch,

and now ... meditation.

If only it were so simple.
